Goins Research: The Quest!

The Merged Theory of Mind, Sentience, and Umwelten between Humans and Dogs through Cohabitation: A Phenomenological Adventure!

In the criteria is a mention of living in the Midwest or Mountain regions of the United States, but what does that actually mean for people wanting to participate? Which states are included? I apologize for the lack of explanation. The Midwest region states are North and South Dakotas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska. The Mountain region states are Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Nevada. For the purpose of this study, I have included Arizona, and New Mexico which can be counted with Mountain or Southwestern. A listing of regions and the states included in them can be found in Wikipedia at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midwestern_United_States  and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountain_states.
If you are interested in participating as a volunteer, please know there are three criteria you must meet:

1. At least 18 years old

2. Living in the Mountains or Midwest regions of the United States

3. Living with a dog or puppy for at least 6 months.

If you meet these criteria, then you are eligible to participate. If you choose to participate, you can reach me via different means–email at goinsresearch@wolfsheartcircle.net, call or text me at 720.552.1951, through Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter.

I am a doctoral candidate at Northcentral University JFK School of Psychology and Social Sciences. This research is part of the requirements I need to fulfill to graduate with my PhD in psychology. My dissertation is titled The Merged Theory of Mind, Sentience, and Umwelten between Humans and Dogs through Cohabitation: A Phenomenological Adventure!

What that means in English is I want to find out about your attitudes, actions (behavior), beliefs, feelings, and thoughts about your dog’s ability to think, feel, and perceive reality the same way you do.

The quest you have been invited to go on is virtual, despite the virtual nature, it is a real adventure, one of the most exciting endeavors you will enjoy and be glad you agreed to go! It takes us into the individuals who live with dogs to identify why they live with dogs. This is the first steps in that quest. The beginning of something new with a wide open future out there waiting to be explored and discoveries to be made. As with all things that are new, I had to decide where to begin. This research study is that beginning.

So, if you meet the eligibility criteria, consider signing up for this expedition into the unknown. The joining process to be part of this quest involves us taking a few steps, so that we can connect. Please reach out to me through one of the social media sites or my email addresses: goinsresearch@wolfsheartcircle.net and goinsresearch@wolfsheartcircle.digital, or call/text me at 720.552.1951. I will need you to provide me with your email address in order to send you the information packet. There are 3 documents inside: Consent and Information letters and my brochure. Read them through carefully so that you will make an informed decision about whether to join. If you still want to be part of the expedition, return the consent letter to me via one of the email addresses above, along with your telephone number so that I can call you and schedule your Zoom interview–for you, the heart of the expedition!

Together you will teach me about the relationship you and your dog have. We’ll talk about some of the funny things your dog does and speculate on the reasons for your dog’s choices. Does your dog communicate with you? What methods does s/he use? Things to be considering as we prepare for this quest.

Once the expedition is completed, there is one last step I need for you to take. Zoom records the interviews for me and will provide a written transcript of everything we say. The final step is receive your copy of that transcript, review it to make certain it tells me exactly what you wanted it to say.  Type in any corrections you find necessary then send the corrected copy back to me via email, goinsresearch@wolfsheartcircle.net or goinsresearch@wolfsheartcircle.digital.

At that point your part of this great quest will be complete. Please accept my sincerest gratitude for your willingness to go with me on this quest into the unknown.

The length of time the interview goes will largely depend upon you, as there is terminology for you to learn. If you learn better by listening or any other means, then we will work with you until you understand.

The interview will last between 30 and 60 minutes, a very long time for one quest; however, if it is too much time in one setting, we can break the time apart so that it extends in short increments until we are finished. You should be aware that 15 minutes is the smallest section of time I can do.
